The Team
The people behind the microphone.
Enosh Simpson
Co-Founder, Co-Host & Producer
Runs a digital marketing agency, places executives in Europe's clean energy sector, and somehow still finds time to co-host a podcast. Overcommitted by design.

Shanil Dutta
Co-Founder, Co-Host & Producer
Geopolitical consultant and founder of his own research agency. Spends his days mapping power shifts across the Indo-Pacific and his evenings making sure those conversations reach the people who need to hear them. Alarming levels of geopolitical trivia.

Sadiyah Reyal
Co-Host
Studies Sri Lankan law, qualified mediator, works in human rights, and has read more policy documents than both Shanil and Enosh combined. Asks the questions guests don't see coming, keeps the conversation honest, and tells Shanil and Enosh when they're being dumb. Regularly.

Maduranga Deeshan
Head of Production & Camera Ops
The reason everything looks good on screen. If the lighting is perfect and the audio is clean, that's him. If it isn't, he'll fix it before you notice.
LinkedIn →How It Started
From a garden to a studio. From an idea to a movement.
"What used to be a bathroom is now where Sri Lanka's most important conversations happen."
The Idea
An iPhone and a friend's garden.
In early 2025, co-hosts Shanil and Enosh were planning a podcast with nothing but their phones and an idea. They wanted to talk geopolitics, business, marketing, and what it really means to build a life in Sri Lanka. No equipment. No studio. Just the conviction that these conversations needed to happen out loud.
The Connection
A chance introduction changes everything.
A few months later, Shanil knew someone who knew Rohan an entrepreneur who was also searching for the right team to launch a serious English-language podcast in Sri Lanka. They connected, sat down, and realised they were building the same thing. Rohan became the show's investor and opened up his office as the base of operations.
The Studio
Built from scratch, by hand, with intention.
What used to be a bathroom was gutted, painted black, carpeted, and lined with original artwork commissioned specifically for From the Island. The studio was built from the ground up a physical manifestation of how seriously everyone took what they were making.
The Platform
One conversation led to another.
Subject matter experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thinkers started appearing on the show. Word spread. People started reaching out curious, excited, wanting in. What started as an idea in a garden had become Sri Lanka's platform for long-form, open English conversation for the benefit of Sri Lankans, and Sri Lanka as a whole.
